The
Girl on The Train is a well-done psychological thriller. It is surprising,
dramatic and a little touching.
The main character is Rachel, a depressed and
unemployed woman seeks safety in alcohol. She hates her life but she likes
to watch and imagine others’ life.
One day during her usual train journay she looks outside
the window and she sees a loving couple on a terrace.
She decides to give them a name: Jess and Jason. But,
after some events, she realized that nothing is as it seems.
The Girl on The train is a cliff-hanger novel and the
analysis of the characters is meticulous.
The narrative is divided into three parts. These are
simply the points of view of the three female characters (Rachel, Megan and
Anna).
There are some flashback and the goings-on are in
reverse. Indeed the novel starts tell about the previous history to the passing
of one of the female characters until the discovery of the truth.
The book is dynamic, fluid and it keeps you hanging
till the end.
You will not understand how
things really are until the last 50 pages.
The end is unexpected and a little hopeful. The author wants to show both the immense power of the women in difficult and illogical situations.
The book was soon released as a film but the set is in America and not in the UK.
